Event:
Tenneco Inc. reported net loss of $72 million for fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2007, versus net income of $15 million in fourth quarter 2006. The loss was due to charges taken in the fourth quarter for actions that advance Tenneco's financial strategy. These include costs for refinancing a portion of the company's debt, which will reduce interest expense, and non-cash tax charges for realigning the European ownership structure, which more effectively aligns the company's U.S. and European assets and revenues with liabilities and expenses. This action will reduce cash taxes and accelerates the use of U.S. net operating losses. For full-year 2007, the company reported a net loss of $5 million, compared with net income of $49 million, in 2006. At Dec. 31, 2007, the company's balance sheet showed total assets of 3.59 billion, total liabilities of $3.19 billion and total shareholders' equity of $0.4 billion.
